Getting around Basel
The Basel city centre is quite compact, making it easy to explore on foot. For longer distances, Basel has an extensive tram and bus network to take you wherever you need to go.
BaselCard
The BaselCard is included free-of-charge with every stay at a hotel, hostel, bed and breakfast, or apartment in Basel. You’ll receive your personal guest card upon check-in, and it can also be loaded onto your smartphone as a web app. The BaselCard provides free access to public transportation and offers a 25% discount on admission to many tourist attractions.

Arrival by airplane—important information below!
The Basel Airport (EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg) will not be accessible from April 15 to May 20, 2026, which includes the duration of ECIO 2026. Only easyJet will maintain an adjusted selection of flight destinations out of EuroAirport. For more information, click here. As a result, CIRSE recommends arriving at Zurich Airport and taking a train to Basel.
Zurich Airport is the country’s largest airport and offers multiple trains within the hour to Basel. Train travel from Zurich Airport to Basel SBB takes between 70-90 minutes. Click here to view the train schedule online and buy your ticket.

Note: if you booked a flight into the Basel Airport, your airline may have automatically rebooked your flight to arrive at Zurich Airport and included the train fare to Basel SBB in your ticket. Please check your flight confirmation and contact your airline for further clarification.
Arrival by train
Basel is an important interchange and transport hub and, with its three mainline train stations, offers excellent connections to all Swiss and major European cities. The Swiss Railway station (SBB), the French Railway station (SNCF), and Badische Bahnhof, operated by German Railway (DB), are all conveniently located in the heart of the city.
Trains from France arrive at the French railway station, which is right next to the Swiss (SBB) station.
Guests traveling from Germany can choose whether to get off at Basel SBB or at the German station (Badischer Bahnhof) near the exhibition centre.
