Multidisciplinary tumour boards are a cornerstone of clinical decision-making, enabling individualized treatment planning for patients. The full impact of interventional radiology is realized when its expertise is integrated within these teams, united by the shared goal of optimizing patient outcomes. The clarity of interventional radiologists’ communication is critical to ensuring that findings and their implications for diagnosis, treatment planning, and prognosis are fully understood.
Interventional radiology plays a multifaceted role in multidisciplinary tumour boards: interpreting imaging studies, recommending interventional options, and resolving diagnostic uncertainties. However, communication challenges, including differences in vocabulary, approaches, and priorities, can arise and affect collaboration. This workshop equips participants with practical skills, strategies, and insights to enhance interaction and collaboration in complex healthcare settings. Designed for those who regularly participate in or plan to join MDTs, it combines interactive exercises with expert-led lectures.
Learning objectives
- Differentiate between individual and group decision-making processes in clinical contexts.
- Critically appraise the biases and limitations that may influence MDT discussions, including factors such as emotions and uncertainty.
- Implement practical strategies to manage complex MDT decision-making.
- Integrate key principles to enhance the quality and consistency of MDT outcomes.
