Hands-on device training sessions
After a short kick-off presentation by the hands-on device training (HDT) coordinators, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the specifics as well as safe and effective use of the available technology in an interactive setting.
Each HDT will feature a round-table discussion with the coordinators at the end of each session, allowing participants to ask questions and provide feedback.
Participating industry partners have been invited by CIRSE to provide an overview of their devices and technologies.
How to participate
Please note that participation is free of charge, but places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign up for each of the hands-on device trainings starts 30 minutes before the start of each session. As all hands-on device training sessions offer practical medical training, participation is for qualified medical professionals only.
Tumour ablation: heat-based (MWA, RFA)
Heat-based ablation is widely used in the minimally invasive treatment of tumours and provides reliable local tumour control through thermal energy. This hands-on device training will give participants practical insight into microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) systems, focusing on how the technologies work and how they are used in daily practice.

Coordinators: Rok Dezman (Ljubljana/SI), Alessandro Posa (Rome/IT)
Location: Hands-on Room 1
Monday, April 27, 08:30-10:00
Tuesday, April 28, 17:00-18:30
Wednesday, April 29, 10:30-12:00
Tumour ablation: non-thermal (IRE, electrochemotherapy)
Non-thermal ablation techniques offer treatment options without the use of heat. This hands-on device training will introduce participants to irreversible electroporation (IRE) and electrochemotherapy, explaining their basic principles and clinical applications. The session will cover procedural workflow, patient selection, and practical considerations, together with established and developing indications.

Coordinators: Riccardo Inchingolo (Acquaviva delle Fonti/IT), Tze Minh Wah (Leeds/GB)
Location: Hands-on Room 1
Monday, April 27, 15:00-16:30
Tuesday, April 28, 10:30-12:00
Wednesday, April 29, 08:30-10:00
Tumour ablation: cold-based
Cryoablation is a unique technology that breaks the boundaries of ablation and creates new indications for treatment. This hands-on device training will offer the attendees the opportunity to learn more about different cryoablation devices, the advantages of cryoablation, and established and emerging indications.

Tumour ablation: confirmation software
Confirmation and planning software plays an important role in improving the accuracy of tumour ablation procedures. This hands-on training will focus on tools used for treatment planning, intra-procedural guidance, and post-procedural assessment. Participants will explore how software can support image fusion, ablation margin assessment, and overall workflow, helping to increase confidence and precision in clinical practice.

Tuesday, April 28, 08:30-10:00
Radioembolization: dosimetry and administration systems
Radioembolization or SIRT is an increasingly performed treatment for both primary and secondary liver tumours. In these hands-on device training sessions, participants will get to experience the administration systems belonging to the three different commercially available microspheres for radioembolization, as well as several software options for performing dosimetry (making a treatment plan).

Musculoskeletal oncologic interventions
Every day, interventional radiologists are approached by patients to resolve their MSK pathologies. In recent years, considerable technological progress has been made as a consequence of the extraordinary outcomes of minimally invasive techniques, which have helped countless patients to achieve pain relief and avoid many of the complications associated with open surgery.
In this hands-on device training, the most common MSK procedures will be discussed, and devices for each of these procedures will be presented and available for participants to practice with.
